Meet Matr Boomie Fair Trade
Founded by Manish Gupta and Ruchi Agrawal, Matr Boomie Fair Trade draws its inspiration from the ancient roots of India, where Sanskrit words meaning 'mother' and 'land' combine to signify the essence of their brand. Established in Austin, Texas, Matr Boomie embodies a vision of a world characterized by playfulness, compassion, kindness, and connection, utilizing fair trade practices to distribute products that promote ethical living.
The heart of Matr Boomie lies in their commitment to creating timeless, handcrafted pieces that are gentle on the planet and support the well-being of artisans. They offer a diverse range of fair trade jewelry, home decor, and unique gifts, all crafted from natural and upcycled materials sourced in socially and environmentally responsible ways. As proud members of the Fair Trade Federation, Matr Boomie collaborates with over 2,000 artisans, predominantly women from marginalized communities in India. Their partnerships focus on providing economic opportunities and sustainable livelihoods, bolstered by vocational training, literacy programs, and fair wages.
Manish's journey began with a return to India after living in the United States, where he was deeply moved by the poverty he encountered. Similarly, Ruchi's career in the fashion industry exposed her to the exploitation of workers and fueled her desire for change. Their shared commitment to fairness and empowerment led them to establish Matr Boomie, starting with grassroots efforts to transform artisans into community leaders.
Today, Matr Boomie has evolved from its modest beginnings in Manish and Ruchi's Austin apartment into a leading force in ethical and sustainable business. Their Austin-based design team collaborates closely with Indian artisans to create collections that honor cultural traditions while delighting customers worldwide. Through their dedication and innovation, Manish and Ruchi continue to guide Matr Boomie towards a future where ethical trade fosters confidence, equality, and opportunity for all.
